Service Schedule and Obituaries

Susan Catherine (Lutka) Keough, 42, of Ridgefield, formerly of Bridgeport and Waterbury died on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at her home surrounded by her loving husband Matthew Alfred Keough and daughter Megan Catherine Keough after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer.
She graduated from the Connecticut School of Business with a certificate in word processing and later went on to pursue an Associate Degree in General Studies. She was attending Sacred Heart University pursing her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology when she was struck with the illness.
During her professional business career, Susan was employed by The Hartford and Pitney-Bowes before joining Chesebrough Ponds/Unilever where she was Senior Pension Benefit Assistant for ten years.
A resident of Ridgefield since 1998, she was an active member of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish of Ridgefield where she taught CCD and was a member of the Bible Study Group.
For the past four years, Mrs. Keough was active with Girl Scouts and a former leader for Troop 338 of Ridgefield.
Susan was a woman of incredible integrity and kindness with a wonderful sense of humor – a gentle, caring soul who brought joy, love and laughter to many.  Above all, she treasured her time with family and friends. Susan inspired others with how she fought her prolonged illness with grace and dignity.  She was a role model for her family and friends. She faced each day with renewed strength, always looking forward and taking comfort in how far she had come rather than how far she still had to go. When things got tough, her daughter Megan would always remind her. “Mom, if you’re able to do something, it’s better than doing nothing.  Her favorite flower was blacked eyed Susan’s and she radiated a warmth much like that of a field of blacked eyed Susan’s on a bright sunny summer day. She will be missed but she will never be forgotten.
In addition to her loving husband Matthew, precious daughter Megan, father Raymond and his wife Joan of Oxford, CT and mother Jennie Frey and her husband Richard of Waterbury, CT, Susan is also survived by four sisters, Linda Holcomb and her husband Roy of Watertown, CT, Sandra Kopac and her husband Stephen of Shelton, CT, Christine Curley and her husband Jeff of Stratford and Julia Lutka of Oxford, CT, her mother in law, Patricia Keough of Ridgefield, a brother in law, Sean Keough and his wife Catherine of Doylestown, PA, a sister in law Erin Ciaciak and her husband Gregory of Exton, PA, her Godmother, Catherine Ross of Milford, twelve nieces and nephews as well as several aunt, uncles and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11AM in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Rd., Ridgefield, CT.
Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ridgefield.
The family will receive relatives and friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Thursday from 4PM to 8PM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions in Susan’s honor be made to the National Brain Tumor Foundation,, 22 Battery Street, Suite 612, San Francisco, CA 94111-5520.

“I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.  I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is done.  I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave behind when day is done.”  Afterglow
