Irving (Irv) Goldsmith, 68, of Ridgefield, husband of Paula (Propp) Goldsmith died on Tuesday evening, November 4, 2008 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  He was a resident of Ridgefield since 1995 and previously lived in Cheshire, CT and Woodstock, NY.
Irv was born in Nashville, TN, July 28, 1940, son of Ludwig and Betty (Wolf) Goldsmith.   Raised in New York City and Highland, NY, he attended New York schools and received his Bachelor and Masters degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Prior to retiring in 2003, Irv was Chief Architect at IBM, responsible for information system initiatives across the global organization.  Since his retirement, he remained a consultant to IBM serving as Architect-at-Large within the CIO office team.  He had many friends and colleagues that came to know him since his first days at IBM in 1965.
Irv most enjoyed being with his family, friends, his dog, and loving wife.  He especially loved his time with his grandchildren.  He enjoyed being at home with his wife, traveling, museums, classical music and following the NY Yankees, his favorite sports team since childhood.   
In addition to his wife of forty-six years, Irv is survived by two sons -- Jeffrey and his wife, Jacqui, of San Francisco, CA and Bruce and his wife, Rika, of Princeton, NJ; a brother, Jerry and his wife Sharon of Washington, DC and four grandchildren, Ariane, Simon, Evan and Renna as well as his cousins.
A private service is planned for family and friends.  In remembrance of Irv those that wish to make contributions, in lieu of flowers, may send them to Ann's Place ( or a charity of their choice.
