Vera H. Evers, 83, of Rivington Woods, Danbury, formerly of The Crossing of Ridgefield, died on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at her home.

She was the wife of the late Judge James Patrick Evers.

Mrs. Evers was born in New York, NY, November 23, 1924, a daughter of Augustus L. and Margaret (Diviny) Hetzel; she was raised in South Orange, New Jersey. She attended South Orange schools and graduated from Maplewood High School and later the Berkley Secretarial School.

Prior to her marriage in 1949 to James P. Evers, she was a legal secretary.

An area resident for the past five years coming from Sea Girt, NJ, Mrs. Evers was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish of Ridgefield.

As a resident of New Jersey, in years past, she was an active member of the PTO as well as the Thomas a` Kempis Catholic Organization.

Mrs. Evers is survived by two daughters, Ann Marie Manning of Hingham, MA and Margaret “Peg” Hostler of Ridgefield, two sisters, Rita O’Rourke of Springfield, NJ and Connie Frampton of Jupiter, FL, two sisters in law, Sally Hetzel of Hobe Sound, FL and Ellen Hetzel of Morristown, NJ, seven grandchildren, Michael Patrick Manning, Kathryn D. Collins, Colleen Elizabeth Manning, Mary Shannon Manning, Timothy Ryan Manning, David Christian Hostler and Christopher James Hostler and five great grandchildren, Michael Patrick Manning, John Daniel Manning, Shannon Marie Manning, Abigail Collins and Emma Collins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday (today) at 9:30AM in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Rd., Ridgefield with the Rev. Joseph A. Prince, officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ridgefield.
