Gerard J. Burns, 71, of Ridgefield, husband of Jacqueline (Peknic) Burns died on Tuesday afternoon, August 26th, 2008 at his home.

Mr. Burns was born in Queens, NY, November 19, 1936, a son of Frank and Mary Florence (Anderson) Burns.  He attended New York schools and graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School of Woodhaven, Queens, NY. 

Upon graduation from high school, Mr. Burns joined the New York Police Department, a career as a patrolman that spanned from 1957 until his retirement in 1978.  He later joined the security staff of the Waldorf Astoria retiring in 1998.

A resident of Ridgefield since 1992 coming from Woodhaven, Queens, NY, he was a member of the Holy Name Society and Emerald Society of the New York Police Department, was active with the Ridgefield Community Garden, enjoyed fishing and was a fan of the NY Mets Baseball Team. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Ridgefield.

In addition to his wife of forty-one years, he is survived by three daughters, Mary Jacqueline Carroll and her husband Joseph of Flushing, Queens, NY, Elizabeth Anne Burns of New Brighton, PA and Katharine F. Brennan and her husband George of Ridgefield, a brother Frank Burns and his wife Frances of Manchester, CT, four grandchildren, Audrey, Joseph, Connor and Caroline and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Burns was predeceased by a daughter Agnes Grace Burns.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:15am in St. Mary’s Church, Ridgefield with the Rev. Paul Murphy, parochial vicar, officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Thursday from 7PM to 9PM and Friday from 2PM to 4PM and 7PM to 9PM.
