Barbara Ann (Tryka) O’Shaughnessy, 78, of Danbury, wife of John W. O’Shaughnessy, died early Tuesday morning, January 7, 2020, surrounded by her loving family, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Barbara was born in Long Island City, NY, the daughter of Michael and Caroline (Szczurek) Tryka. She was raised in Parkchester, NY, attended New York Parochial Schools and graduated from Saint Helena's High School in the Bronx, NY.
She was an employee with the Bronx Savings Bank prior to moving to Danbury in 1973. She later became a retail sales associate for August Max Woman at the Danbury Fair Mall, after raising her family.
She was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, the Pembroke School PTO and a member of Saint Gregory the Great Church of Danbury.
In addition to her husband, John of fifty years, Barbara is survived by her two daughters, Erin Stevens and her husband, Timothy of Stamford and Amy Orsini and her husband, Giuseppe of Southbury; a brother, Robert Tryka and his wife, Angelina of Smithtown, L.I., NY; five grandchildren, Danny, Emily and Liam Stevens and Brennan and Andrew Orsini; her brother in-law, Rev. James O'Shaughnessy, her sister in-law, Anne Duggan and husband, John Duggan, her nephew, Luke Duggan and family, and her niece, Sheila Duggan and family. Barbara is predeceased in addition to her parents by her nephew, Erik Tryka.
Barbara had many hobbies. She loved gardening and creating arts and crafts. Barbara was an avid reader of suspense and romance novels,
loved solving crossword puzzles, and completing jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed playing board games, dancing to music and planning parties. Barbara will be greatly missed by her beloved family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 11 a.m. in St. Gregory the Great Church, 85 Great Plain Rd., Danbury.
Interment in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury will take place at the direction of the family.
The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Friday, January 10, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
