Harold E. McGowan


Harold “Hi” McGowan, 92, of Danbury, husband of Maria “Connie” (Capano) McGowan, died on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Bethel Health Care, Bethel, CT.


Hi was born in Danbury on December 25, 1925, a son of the late Andrew and Myrtle (Simmons) McGowan. He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School with the Class of 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy upon graduation from high school and was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Electrician’s Mate Third Class after serving in the Asiatic Pacific. He was a recipient of the American Theatre Medal, Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Medal.


A hatter in early years, working at the Harry McLachlan Hat Company, Hi became an electrician, an occupation he held for forty-three years retiring from the local International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of St. James’ Episcopal Church both of Danbury.


Harold is survived by his wife Connie of fifty years, his children, Nancy Degon of Auburn, MA, Kathy Walter of Danbury, Judy Pilch of New Milford, Mark Paradise and his wife Kim of Groton, CT and Sandy Gotthardt and her husband Mark of Danbury; grandchildren, Brenda Leibowitz, Brian Degon, Kimberly Klein, Matthew Walter, Craig and Christina Paradise, Alexis and Samantha Curtis, Mark Jr. and Justin Gotthardt.
Hi also leaves twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services with military honors will take place on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 2:45 p.m. in Section 16 of Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.


There will be no calling hours.
