Carolyn Angilly Herr

Carolyn HerrCarolyn A. (Angilly) Herr, 84, of Ridgefield, passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Western Rehabilitation Center in Danbury. She was the dedicated and loving wife of Ralph J. “Jack” Herr.
Carolyn was born on July 7, 1934 in White Plains, NY; the daughter of architect Arthur O. Angilly and his wife, Clara Byrd Angilly. Carolyn grew up in Pleasantville NY, a model student, artist, athlete and graduate of Pleasantville High School. Carolyn studied fine arts at Ohio Wesleyan University, where she began to perfect her formidable skills as a talented watercolor artist. While in Ohio, Carolyn met her future husband Jack, and they were married in 1957.
Carolyn moved to Ridgefield with her husband in 1961, where they settled to raise their family in this fine community. Carolyn had a deep love for Ridgefield. Carolyn was a significant force behind the running of the family business, (4) auto parts stores spanning from Norwalk to Ridgefield. She also enjoyed a highly successful real estate career in which she helped manage and grow the real estate businesses at Century 21, Merrill Lynch, and finally Scalzo Realty in Danbury before she retired due to illness.
Carolyn was a woman of great faith as well as a Bible scholar; and was an active member of the church she loved, the Ridgefield Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and a Deaconess of the church. She was a woman of quiet strength, intelligence, confidence and faith – an example for all those who knew her.
She was also a private pilot; enjoyed golf, yard work, travel, and visiting her paradise beach in the Bahamas, a beach where she would walk for hours and hours giving her great peace. Throughout her life, she loved to paint, having produced a volume of remarkable watercolor artworks most of which remain with the family.
Carolyn touched the lives of so many, and all who knew her would describe her as “selfless”. She will be missed greatly, but never forgotten.
She is survived by her children: Thomas Herr of New Milford, CT; James Herr and his wife, Michiko Kishi of Pleasantville, NY; and Jon Herr of Ridgefield. In addition, Mrs. Herr is survived by three grandchildren: Jaimie (Herr) Angerami and her Husband Adam Angerami, Bryson Herr and Issei Herr.
There will be a public memorial service (all are welcome) in the near future at the Ridgefield Baptist Church. Announcements will be made.
