Elizabeth “Betty” Zielinski

Elizabeth “Betty” (Vanech) Zielinski, 87, of Danbury, wife of the late Joseph Zielinski, died on Friday, September 22, 2017 at her home.

Mrs. Zielinski was born in Norwalk, CT, March 18, 1930, a daughter of Steven and Georgia (Sarantos) Vanech. She attended Norwalk schools, Sacred Heart Academy of Stamford and graduated from the Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing.

A registered nurse, Mrs. Zielinski was employed at the Fairfield Hill State Hospital of Newtown for twenty-eight years.

Active in the parish life of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Danbury, she served a former secretary-treasurer and vice president of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, the Building Fund committee and annual Greek Festival committee.

She is survived by a son, Joseph Zielinski of Danbury; two daughters, JoAnn Zielinski and wife Jackie Bonafonte of Oldsmar, FL and Elizabeth Pazsak and husband Alex of Middlebury, CT; two sisters, Ethelyn “Cookie” O’Grady of Norwalk and Ann Markis and husband George of Tarpon Springs, FL two grandsons, Steven Zelinski and Thomas Zielinski and several nieces and nephews.

The Rite of Burial will take place on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge Rd., Danbury.

Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
