Eric J. Mitchell, 25, of New Fairfield, died on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 unexpectedly at Danbury Hospital of natural causes.

Eric was born in Pittsfield, MA on February 8, 1991, a son of James “Nick” Mitchell of New Fairfield and Linda (Behuniak) Washington of New Milford. He attended New Fairfield schools and graduated from New Fairfield High School with Distinction and attended Porter and Chester Institute of Watertown, CT.

Eric enjoyed building, repairing, and programming computers, and also gaming on and off line with his friends. His hobby was collecting old obsolete gaming systems and games, and he had acquired an impressive collection. He also enjoyed working on his cars and working on and riding motorcycles with his Dad. Together, they put together a very cool custom Café Racer motorcycle.

Eric loved fishing since the time he could walk and was always passionate about saltwater and freshwater fishing.

Eric's dream in life was when his Dad retired, to move out to the family farm in Washington State and build a cabin.

He was a lifelong area resident.

In addition to his father Nick and mother Linda and her husband Gary, Eric is survived by a brother, Timothy Dillon of Northford, CT; a sister, Julie Read and her husband Richard and their children Ricky Jr. and Roslyn all of Hunter, NY; paternal grandparents, James and Marianne Mitchell of Madison, CT; maternal grandparents, Jeffrey Behuniak and his wife Sally of Brooklyn, CT and Marlene Sage and her husband Newell of Chester, CT and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends who were extended family members.

Eric also leaves behind his beloved Pembroke Corgi, Brandy, who he loved.

A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 12 Noon in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2 Colonial Road & Route 37, New Fairfield, CT with Pastor Justin Smith officiating.

The family will receive family and friends following the service.
