Bertram Lipman

Bertram (Bert) Lipman, 91, of Danbury, devoted husband of Joan (Susnitzky) Lipman, died peacefully on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Danbury Hospital.

Bert was born in the Bronx, NY, August 11o, 1925, son of William and Anna (Niess) Lipman. With his family, Bert relocated from the Bronx to New Haven and later to Bridgeport. As a teenager, he delivered telegrams by bicycle for Western Union in the early 1930s after The Depression.

Bert was a flight engineer and a World War II U.S. Army Air Corp. veteran on a B-29 in the Pacific Theater; he was stationed on Tinian during the atomic bombing of Japan. Following his service, Bert had a long career in sales with Julius Schine, Rosenbaum & Company Incorporated of Stratford, CT.

A resident of Danbury since 1992 coming from Milford, CT, he was a member of various organizations, including the Pyramid Shriners, the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Connecticut, the Loyalty Lodge, the Orange Synagogue Center, and the United Jewish Center. Bert was a loving husband, a wonderful father, and a massive fan of the Yankees, Giants, and Knicks; he never missed a game. Bert was introduced to sports by his father, with whom he shared a close bond; his father took him to all the games as a child.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, Joanie, Bert is survived by three sons: William and his wife Gail of Orange, CT; Stephen and his wife Shelly of Windsor, CT; and Alan of Washington, DC. He is also survived by four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services and burial were held on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. in the Loyalty Jewish Cemetery, Burroughs Rd., Fairfield, CT with Cantor Penny Kessler of the United Jewish Center of Danbury officiating. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and/or the Humane Society to continue his legacy of love for animals. Bert’s love and kindness will never be forgotten by anyone who was privileged enough to know him. 

A Period of Mourning will be observed at the Lipman family residence.
