George E. LaCava

George E. LaCava, son of John LaCava Sr. and Mary (Esposito) LaCava, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017.

Mr. LaCava was born in 1930 and attended St. Peter School and graduated from Danbury High School, class of 1948. He received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Danbury State Teachers College in 1953. He also obtained a Master’s Degree from Bridgeport University as well as a Sixth Year certificate for advanced studies.

Mr. LaCava taught elementary school in Danbury for several years before joining the Westport School System in 1967 as Media Coordinator for Staples High School, a position he held for many years, before retiring in 1991.

During his time in Westport, he completed additional course work at Fordham University, the RCA Institute, Arizona State University and Syracuse University. He also completed degree requirements in Library Science at Southern Connecticut State University.

Mr. LaCava was instrumental in many Westport projects including the construction of the television studio at Staples High School which he operated for several years. He was also the recipient of an award in 1965 by the National Department of Audio Visual Instruction for his outstanding work in his educational field.

Mr. LaCava was a member of the Westport Teachers Association, the Connecticut Education Association and the National Education Association. He was also a member of the Connecticut Teachers Retirement Association.

Mr. LaCava was a parishioner of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church of Danbury.

In his spare time, Mr. LaCava enjoyed travelling in many European countries, gardening and collecting and refinishing antique furniture.

He is survived by two sisters; Rosalie Garavel and Mary Jane Garavel and a brother; Robert LaCava as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church; 8 Robinson Avenue, Danbury. Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. There will be no calling hours.
