Johnny E. Harps

Johnny HarpsJohnny E. Harps, 83, of Danbury, formerly of Norwalk, husband of Elizabeth (Parker) Harps, died on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Harps was born in Conway, South Carolina, February 10, 1933, a son of the late Walsh and Elizabeth Harps. He attended Conway schools and graduated from Conway High School.

A U.S. Army Korean War veteran, Mr. Harps was retired from the Perkin Elmer Company where he was employed from 1961 until his retirement in 1995.

A resident of Norwalk from 1956 to 1967, coming from Conway, he has been a Danbury resident for the past forty years and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church where he served as an usher and a member of the senior choir.

He enjoyed music, was an avid NY Mets fan and a jack of all trades around his home.

In addition to his wife Elizabeth of sixty one years, Mr. Harps is survived by three sons, Mike Harps of Danbury, Alfred Harps and his wife Busi of Waterbury and Chris Harps also of Danbury; two sisters, Cassie Mae Jordan of Danbury and Savannah Smith of Conway, SC; three grandchildren, Chelsea L. Wilson, Jalen Harps and Neo Williams as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Harps was predeceased by a brother, William Huggins.

Going Home Services will take place on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the New Hope Baptist Church, 12 Dr. Aaron B. Samuels Blvd., Danbury with Rev. Leroy G. Parker, officiating.
