Raymond E. Andrews Jr.


Raymond “Hooter” Andrews Jr., 79, of Danbury, husband of Shirlee (Nassif) Andrews, died surrounded by his loving family on Friday evening, March 24, 2017 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Mr. Andrews was born in Derby, CT, October 5, 1937, son of Raymond and Margaret (Wood) Andrews. Ray was raised in Beacon Falls, CT and graduated from Seymour High School with the Class of 1955.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Randolph.

He was employed with the Grand Union Company for thirty years as a union carpenter.

After retiring from Grand Union Company, Ray became a deliveryman for Driscoll’s Florist of Danbury.

Ray spent leisure time by fishing and camping. He loved to dance especially the polka.

He was an avid baseball fan of the N.Y. Yankees and also played baseball throughout his healthy life.

An active member of St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church of Danbury, Ray served as an usher as well as assisted with many parish functions.

A life member of the V.F.W., he was also a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.

Mr. Andrews is survived in addition to his wife of fifty two years, by a daughter Kelly Andrews of Danbury; a son Michael Andrews and his wife Doreen of New Fairfield; a sister Jean “Sis” Turmel of Waterbury, two grandchildren Olivia and Evan and by several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their many thanks to the DeVita Dialysis group for their compassionate and dedicated services as well as Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western Connecticut of Danbury.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 10:30 am in St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury .

Interment will be private and at the direction of the family.

The family will receive friends at St. Anthony Maronite Church of Tuesday, March 28, 207 from 5 pm to 8 pm.

Contributions in Mr. Andrews’ memory may be made to St. Anthony Church.
