Nancy (Aloia) Melagrano

Nancy (Aloia) Melagrano, 71, of Charlestown, RI, formerly of South Salem, NY, passed away peacefully in the afternoon of January 31, 2016. Born in Yonkers, NY on December 10, 1944, Nancy was the daughter of the late Peter and Ila (Patton) Aloia. Nancy is survived by her husband Ronald (Ronnie), to whom she was married for 51 years, her sister, Diane Siegel, her three children, Patricia and husband Anthony Sola, Peter and wife Christine, and Lenore and husband Jonathan Wichman. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren; Samantha and Peter Sola, Lindsay and Lauren Melagrano, Kathryn, Hickory, W. Michael, David, Elizabeth, Lila, Bradley and Robert Wichman.

Nancy enjoyed many years of work as an information specialist at IBM, where she made many lasting friendships. Nancy had a way of making friends wherever she went. It was not unusual to see her extend her hand to a new face, exclaiming, “Nancy Melagrano, how do you do?”

Nancy loved to travel. She spent much time vacationing in Europe and on the island of St. Martin. She also had a knack for bingo, enjoyed knitting, and was known to her grandchildren for making the most delicious brownies. Since moving to Rhode Island in 2004, Nancy developed an appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. She and Ronnie spent many hours sitting on their front porch watching birds splash in the bath, listening to the sounds of the neighborhood children as they played.

Nancy will truly be missed by all who knew her.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home; 9 Granville Avenue, Danbury. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church; 82 Spring Street, South Salem, NY. Internment will follow at the South Salem Cemetery; across from the church.

Nancy’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful faculty at the Westerly Adult Day Care where Nancy spent much of her time throughout the last few years, as well as to the doctors and nurses at the Westerly Health Center for their dedicated care of Nancy throughout the last six months.
