Anne Hondron

Anne Hondron, 91, of Danbury, died peacefully on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Maplewood of Danbury.

Miss Hondron was born in Danbury, April 10, 1925, a daughter of Georhe N. and Efterpe “Ethel” (Vanellis) Hondron.

She attended Danbury schools, Danbury High School and was a graduate of the former Danbury State Teachers College (Western Connecticut State University) where she attained her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Education.

A retired educator in the Danbury Public School system from which she retired after a long career, most recently she was an elementary instructor at the King St. Primary School.

Anne enjoyed travelling to many countries; especially Greece, with her sister Alyce. She also enjoyed her dogs and cats, especially her cat “Blackie”.

A lifelong member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Danbury, she was a member of the church choir, church volunteer and a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society.

She was a member of the Western Connecticut State University Association, NEA-Danbury and the Connecticut Education Association.

Miss Hondron is survived by her two nephews, William Mentavlos and George Mentavlos; two grandnephews, Nicholas and Alex Mentavlos and cousins in America and Greece.

In addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by her sisters, Alyce Hondron and Sappho (Lula) Mentavlos and by her brother in law, Theodore Mentavlos.

The Rite of Burial will take place on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 10 a.m. in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge Rd., (Rt. 39N), Danbury with Father Peter Karloutsos officiating.

Burial will take place in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at the Assumption Greek Orthodox on Wednesday from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge Rd., Danbury 06811 would be appreciated.

The family would like to acknowledge the staff at Maplewood of Danbury and Anne’s cousins, Michael and Marlene Caravakis for their compassionate care and concerns for Anne.
