Doris Hoyt Ventres

Doris VentresDoris (Hoyt) Ventres of Ridgefield, CT and Sherman, CT, went to eternal rest at the age of 86 at Danbury Hospital on Wednesday, November 18, 2015.

She was the wife of George E. Ventres.

Born on February 11, 1929 in Ridgefield, Mrs. Ventres was a daughter of Lawrence C. and Gertrude (Thomas) Hoyt. She grew up in Ridgefield, attended local schools and graduated with the Class of 1946.

A commercial model, she appeared in national magazines and in later years was a bookkeeper for Ridgefield Power Equipment.

Mrs. Ventres was a member of the N.R.A., Charter member of the Ramapoo Rifle and Revolver Club. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Ridgefield and was active in the Woman’s Fellowship. Forty seven years, Mrs. Ventres was a Historian and writing the Military. An American patriot and hero, her pet project has been writing letters to U.S. soldiers from Ridgefield on a monthly basis since 1968 serving overseas and stateside.

She enjoyed nature and fly fishing on the Big Hole River in Montana or just spending a quiet day at Holiday Point in Sherman.

Mrs. Ventres is survived by her husband of sixty eight years; two sons, Tad J. Ventres of Ridgefield and Dale H. Ventres of Wise River, Montana; a daughter in law, Elena K. Ventres; two grandsons, Cody J. Ventres and Garret T. Ventres also of Wise River, Montana.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, 103 Main St., Ridgefield with the Rev. Dr. Charles Hambrick-Stowe, Senior Pastor officiating.

Interment will follow in Bald Hill Cemetery, Wilton.

A reception will follow the burial in Lund Hall of the First Congregational Church where the family will receive relatives and friends.
