Rosario "Sal" TestaRosario “Sal” Testa, 87, of Newtown, formerly of Ridgefield, husband of Gloria (Carbone) Testa, died on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut Center for Comfort Care and Healing, Danbury.

Mr. Testa was born in the Bronx, New York, August 5, 1927, a son of Antonio and Assunta (Caccioppo) Testa. He attended New York schools and graduated from Harran High School of Manhattan.

Upon graduation from high school in 1945, Mr. Testa entered the U.S. Army Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a weather observer with the rank of Private First Class. He later entered City College of New York after his completion of military service and graduated in 1948 with an Associate Degree in Drafting.

From 1947 to 1949, Mr. Testa was a draftsman with Jabez Burns of New York City and later joined Perkin Elmer as a draftsman and was employed with Perkin Elmer for thirty-six years. He retired as a senior plastics design engineer. His accomplishments included working on optics development team for the Hubble Spacecraft contracted by the Huntsville Space Center in Montgomery, Alabama as well as development of patents for Perkin Elmer.

A resident of Ridgefield since 1957, Mr. Testa was a member of the American Legion, Ridgefield Men’s Club, Ridgefield Republican Club and a former board member, the Good Neighbor Fund, a member of the Italian American Mutual Aid Society and served for seven years as its president, a member of St. Mary Parish of Ridgefield until the building of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church of Ridgefield in 1976 and a part of the design team for the church and served on the Parish Advisory Council.

He enjoyed bowling, bocci, racquetball, softball, golf, karaoke and dancing.

In addition to his wife of sixty-six years, Mr. Testa is survived by eight daughters, Valerie Testa Semple (David), Sally Testa Frulla (Paul), Sueanne Testa Seaman (Kevin), Toni Testa Hernandez (Alex), Teri Testa Nistico (Vinnie), Marylee Testa Lucas, Gloria Testa Young (Chris), Lenora Testa Saccomani (Joe); 14 grandchildren and one great grandson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Testa was predeceased by his granddaughter Erin Semple Morrarty in 2013, his brother Jimmy and sister Virginia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 11 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Rd., Ridgefield.

Interment will take place in St. Mary Cemetery, Ridgefield with military honors.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
