Maria T. Manolakes

Maria T. Manolakes, 85, of Bethel, wife of the late Thomas Manolakes, died on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at the home of her son and daughter in law, Nick and Eleni Manolakes of Brookfield.

Mrs. Manolakes was born in Greece, December 28, 1930, a daughter of the late Christos and Labrini (Sakas) Christou.

She emigrated from Greece at the age of twenty one first settling in Canada and two months to the United States settling in Danbury.

Mrs. Manolakes was a seamstress and was associated with her husband in the operation of the Stony Hill Market which they ran from 1954 to 2005.

She enjoyed travel and gardening.

Mrs. Manolakes was a former member of the Daughters of Penelope. She was a member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Danbury and the Ladies Philoptochos.

In addition to her son Nick Manolakes and his wife, Eleni of Brookfield, she is also survived by a son, Chris Manolakes with whom she made her home; a brother, Efstathios Christou of Greece; a sister, Joanna Biniaris of Danbury; two grandchildren, Maria and Thomas and several nieces and nephews.

The Rite of Burial will take place on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 10 a.m. in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge Rd. (Rt. 39N), Danbury with the Rev. Peter Karloutsos officiating.

Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Trisagion service will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
