Haensel, Virginia

Virginia M. Haensel (nee Berg), 71, of Bethel, CT, died in her home Friday, May 15, 2015, following a long illness.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, the oldest child of the late Ingolf and Marie Berg, of Brooklyn,NY. Virginia came to Bethel, CT, with her mother and two younger brothers, after the death of her father in 1958. Virginia married right out of high school, to the late Frank Haensel (Ssgt, USAF), to start a family and begin life as a military wife. Virginia returned to Bethel, CT, in 1974, following the sudden death of her husband.

She is survived by her children, Katherine Haensel, wife of the late John Swayne and their daughter, Amanda Swayne, her son Christopher Haensel, his wife Marjorie, and their children Colin and Ciara, of Cheshire, CT, and her daughter Karen Dempsey, her husband Stephen, and their children Stephen, Laura, Brian, Michelle and Adam, of Reading, PA. She is also survived by her brother Ken Berg of Bethel, CT and family, and her brother Walter Berg, of Medford, OR and his family.

Mrs. Haensel was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Danbury.

Her happiest moments were family gatherings. She most especially cherished the times spent with her children and grandchildren.

She will be sorely missed.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury with Pastor Joel Cundiff, Associate Pastor of the Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating.

Interment will take place in Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.

The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Thursday from 10:45am to 12:15 p.m.
