Sadie Gabriel

Sadie GabrielSadie (Joseph) Gabriel, age 102, of Danbury, wife of the late Kameal M. Gabriel, mother of Gloria M. Assad and Delores A. Gabriel, grandmother of George J. Assad and Raymond G. Assad, Jr., great grandmother of Stephanie, Anthony, Raymond III and Alissa, aunt, sister in law and friend, died on Sunday evening, May 17, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Gabriel was born in Dutchess Junction, NY, January 6, 1913, a daughter of Charles and Mary (Deep) Joseph. She moved with her family as a young girl from Dutchess Junction, NY to Danbury where she has resided ever since and attended Danbury schools.

A member of St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church and the oldest living member, “Aunt Sadie” as she was affectionately known by all, was very active in life of the parish. She was a daily communicant, a member of the Ladies Guild, Altar Society, Mahrajan Committee, Annual Hafli Committee, Kitchen Committee, Mercy Meal Committee, Sick and Shut In Committee and the “Sadie & Mamie Church Property Management Committee”. Both of whom died in the past 9 months of each other.

In November 2012, Sadie received recognition by her parish, the National Apostolate of Maronites, Senators Blumenthal and Murphy, the Connecticut General Assembly and the City of Danbury for her dedication to St. Anthony Parish and her role in building the parish into a strong family of faith.

She is a recipient of Apostolic Blessings from His Holiness Pope Benedict and His Holiness Pope Francis and a recipient of the Massabki Brothers Medal from the National Apostolate of Maronites.

Mrs. Gabriel was recognized by the Lebanon-American Club along with her dear friend Mamie and four others for their contributions to their respective churches and contributions to the community on Lebanon Day 2014 in the City of Danbury.

In addition to her church memberships, Mrs. Gabriel was also a member of the Lebanon American Club Auxiliary, a former polling place worker, former member of the Y.W.S.L.S. and the Dier El Kammar Society.

In addition to her daughters, Gloria of New Fairfield and Delores of Danbury with whom she made her home, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, sister in law and friends, Mrs. Gabriel was predeceased by three brothers, Edward Joseph, Cleo Joseph and Joseph Joseph and by two sisters, Lillian Kalled and Eva Joseph.

The Concelebrated Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 11:15 a.m. in St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury with the Most Rev. Bishop Robert J. Shaheen officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends in St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
