Robert C. Whitford



Robert C. Whitford, 88, of Ridgefield, formerly of Brookfield, husband of the late Helen (O’Haire) Whitford, died at his home on Tuesday, April 22, 2014.

Mr. Whitford was born in the Bronx, NY, May 25, 1925, a son of William and Frances (Domzelski) Whitford. He attended Bronx schools and served with the U.S. Merchant Marines.

A retired NYC taxi driver, he resided in Ridgefield for the past ten years and for ten years prior in Brookfield moving from the Bronx.

An avid NY Yankee fan, Mr. Whitford enjoyed the time shared with his family and most especially grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish of Ridgefield.

Mr. Whitford is survived by two daughters, Maryrose Escaravage and her husband, James of New Fairfield and Angela Whitford and her husband, Stan Madaloni of Ridgefield; a son, Patrick Whitford and his wife, Lori of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, Jenelle Escaravage, Renee Fox and her husband, Joseph, Nicholas and Kathryn Madaloni and Patrick and Michael Whitford and by his dearest “other” children, Michael Sampey and his partner, Cecilio Carazana of West New York, NJ and Kathleen Sampey and her husband, Michael Gallo of Riverdale, NY as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Whitford was predeceased by three brothers and by two sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 2 PM in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Road, Ridgefield with Fr. Joseph Prince, officiating.

Interment will be private.

There will be no calling hours.
