Geraldine Scott Swan

Geraldine Scott Swan, 64, of New Haven formerly of Danbury, died on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Geraldine was born in Savannah, GA, February 8, 1949, daughter of James and Willie Mae (Coaxum) Scott.

She resided in Savannah until 1964 when she moved to Danbury where she was a Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA) at the former Heritage Heights Healthcare.

In 1996, Geraldine returned to Savannah where she was a member of the housekeeping staff of the River Street Inn.

A resident of New Haven for the past three and one half years coming from Savannah, she was an avid reader and a people person.

She was a member of Harambee Center and the Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church of Danbury.

She is survived by a daughter, Sonya Renee Scott Campbell and her husband, Stanley of Savannah; three grandchildren, Aquilla Shanee, Stanasia Alexia and Stanley Campbell Jr.; four sisters; Thomasina Mitchell of Ridgeland, SC, Delores Elleby, Jamesetta Scott and Cynthia Scott Mayo all of Danbury and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Geraldine is predeceased by a sister, Henrietta H. Brockington and three brothers, Marion Coaxum, James Scott and Charles Scott.

Going Home Services will take place on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11 am in the Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church, 69 Rowan St., Danbury with the Rev. Lloyd McKenzie Jr. officiating.

Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at Mt. Pleasant Church on Saturday from 10 am to 11 am.

Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
