Michael C. Russo Sr.

Michael C. Russo Sr., 85, of Southbury, CT, formerly of Stamford, CT, husband of the late Helen (Grabowski) Russo, died on Sunday afternoon, March 30, 2014 at River Glen Health Care Center, Southbury surrounded by family and friends.

Mr. Russo was born in Stamford, CT, September 18, 1928, a son of the late Raffaele and Lucia (Lorato) Russo. He attended Stamford schools and graduated from Stamford High School in 1947.

He was a peacetime veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He initially became a mason with his father and later a butcher by trade, Mr. Russo owned and operated the former Stanley’s Meat Market of Greenwich, later managed The Grand Central Market of Stamford.

A resident of Southbury for the past five years coming from Stamford, Mr. Russo was a member of St. Cecilia Parish of Stamford, the Knights of Columbus of Stamford and the Italian Center of Stamford.

An avid golfer, he also enjoyed woodworking, drawing and gardening.

Mr. Russo is survived by two sons, Michael C. Russo, Jr. and Deacon Stephen R. Russo and his wife, Heather; his former daughter in law, Jody Russo; four grandchildren, Christopher, Scott, Nicholas and Sarah as well as several nieces and nephews and a brother, Guilo Russo of Florida.

He was pre-deceased by his son Walter R. Russo, wife Helen (Grabowski) Russo, Sister Caroline Uva, Brothers Anthony Russo and Ralph Russo.

The Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 10 am in St. Ann Melkite Catholic Church, 181 Clapboard Ridge Road, (Rte. 39N), Danbury with Rev. John Cigan and Deacon Stephen R. Russo, son of the deceased, of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Danbury, officiating.

Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Sunday, April 6 from 4 pm to 7 pm.

The Panachida Prayer Service will take place on Sunday at 6:30 pm.
