Jowdy Kane - Obituary-George DimyanGeorge E. Dimyan, 83, of Danbury, husband of June (Alhage) Dimyan, died on Tuesday, December 16, 2014.

Affectionately known by most as “Wimpy”, Mr. Dimyan was born in Danbury, May 17, 1931, a son of Joseph and Celia (Jowdy) Dimyan. He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School in the Class of 1949. Active in sports at Danbury High School, Mr. Dimyan was captain of the DHS varsity baseball team and was a member of the DHS basketball team.

He joined the family business, Dimyan’s Market at the corner of Elm and Beaver Streets, Danbury upon graduation and later co-owned with his brother Edmond for thirty-five years. For the past thirty years, Mr. Dimyan was associated with the former Dimyan’s Wholesale which became Dandy Distributors.

A lifelong Danbury resident, Mr. Dimyan was a member of St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church and the Lebanon-American Club both of Danbury.

In addition to his wife of sixty years, he is survived by two sons, George J. Dimyan and his wife Diana of New Fairfield and Michael P. Dimyan and his wife Jennifer of Newtown; three daughters, Doreen M. Goncalves and her husband Gary of Danbury, Susan A. Dimyan of Danbury and Dawn M. Lauf and her husband Jay of Fairfield; twelve grandchildren, Lauren Kilcourse, Kristin, Amanda and Jeffrey Goncalves, Andrew David, Chelsea Dimyan, Colin David, Joseph Dimyan, Jordan Lauf, Caroline Lauf, Nicholas Dimyan and Julia Dimyan as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Dimyan was predeceased by two brothers, Edmond Dimyan and Kamil Salame and by a sister, Mary Dimyan Basher.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 19, 2014 at 6:45 p.m. in St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury with the Rev. Naji K. Wakim officiating.

Interment will be private on Saturday at St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends in St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church on Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
