Martin J. Morgan, Sr.

Martin J. Morgan, Sr., 77, of New Fairfield, beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” (Rice) Morgan, died at his residence on Monday evening, June 3, 2013.

Mr. Morgan was born in the Bronx, New York, May 13, 1936, a son of the late Michael and Marie (Bannen) Morgan. He attended New York schools.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Morgan was a retired U.S. Postal Service Letter Carrier. Retiring in 1991 after 36 years of service, Mr. Morgan was employed at the Cathedral Station Post Office in Manhattan.

In later years, Mr. Morgan was employed with the New England Uniform Company of Danbury.

A resident of New Fairfield since 1974 coming from the Bronx, Mr. Morgan was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, St. Edward the Confessor Parish and of its Knights of Columbus Council. A sportsman, he was an avid NY Giants fan and supporter of New Fairfield Youth Lacrosse.

In addition to his wife, Betty of fifty-one years, Mr. Morgan is the cherished father of Kevin T. Morgan and his wife, Kimberly and Martin J. Morgan, Jr. and his wife, Nancy all of New Fairfield; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Gillotti and her husband, Michael of Danbury and Maureen P. Viola and her husband, Bob of Tampa, FL; a brother, Michael Morgan and his wife, Eileen of Dix Hills, L.I., NY; three sisters, Patricia Di Franza and her husband, Nick of Carmel, NY, Margaret Stone and her husband, Jim and Gertrude Weber all of the Bronx, NY; twelve grandchildren, Michael and Brendan Gillotti, Hannah, HB and Yvonne Morgan, Morgan and CJ Viola and Bridget, John, Margaret, Kate, Brady Morgan as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Also surviving Mr. Morgan was a special gift from God, his angel on earth, Caregiver Agnes Opoku.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Morgan was predeceased by a brother, James Morgan and by three sisters, Frances Seiler, Marie Ruocco and Catherine Ivory.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield.

Interment will take place at the direction of the family.

The family will receive friends at St. Edward the Confessor Church on Saturday from 9:30 AM to 10:15 AM and following the Mass of Christian Burial in St. Edward the Confessor Parish Hall.
