Jeanette (Jean) Nimer Haddad

Jean Haddad

Jeanette (Jean) Nimer Haddad, age 79 of Danbury, Connecticut, beloved wife of Theodore Haddad, Sr., passed away peacefully Monday evening, January 14, 2013 at her home surrounded by her beautiful and devoted family.

Jean was a lifelong Danburian, born on February 24, 1933, daughter of the late George and Julia (Nassar) Nimer. Jean had plans on graduating from Danbury High School, but was unable to because she had to help provide for her family. This sacrifice is just one of the many examples that portrayed her selfless nature. She owned several local businesses in Danbury. In 1972, Jean established a real estate firm, T & J Realty with 18 sales people. In 1973, she was named Woman of the Year as the Owner/Realtor of a woman-owned real estate company. Jean continued to be involved with several real estate and development companies until her passing. In the 80's and 90's, Jean also owned Mr. Nibbs Chicken N Ribs and Wedgies Restaurant, formerly located in Danbury.

Jean met the love of her life, Ted, in 1953 and they were married at Saint Peter's Church in Danbury on November 26, 1955. Her entire life was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren, whom she loved more than anything in this entire world. Personally, Jean had many great attributes: her heart was always open to family, friends and strangers; she was the most genuine, beautiful human being known to mankind; she had such a knowledge for giving expert advice; and always helped those in need. Jean was respected as the matriarch of her large family. Three words that best describe Jean are love, respect and class. Jean followed in the footsteps of her loving mother when it came to cooking. She always “cooked for an army” because nothing gave her greater pleasure than to call upon a family member to “stop by, I have something for you.” Jean was a huge New York Yankees fan – you never wanted to interrupt her when a game was on; she was glued to the TV. Let's not forget Jean's favorite passion, Atlantic City, where she enjoyed spending quality one on one time with her most adoring husband. For the past 45 summers, she and all her family vacationed at the Jersey shore where wonderful memories were made and treasured. More than anything, Jean was held in the highest of regard by anyone and everyone who has ever met her.

Jean will be sadly missed by her sons, Theodore Haddad, Jr., Dennis Haddad and wife Christine, and her daughter Pam O'Brien and husband Shawn, five grandchildren, Sean and Christian Haddad, Taylor and Connor O'Brien and Courtney Winch. Two sisters, Madeline Jowdy of Danbury and Yvonne LeFebvre of Florida, her brother Fred Nimer of Ohio, sister in law Sophie Nimer of Danbury, two daughters-in-law, Tracy Haddad of Bethel and Meg Riefberg of Danbury, and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and several cousins.

In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her sister, Helen (Nimer) Jowdy and husband George, brother George Nimer Jr. and wife Ann, brother James Nimer and wife Rita, brother Samuel Nimer, sister in law Marge Nimer, brother in law Ray Jowdy and her niece and best friend, Carol Ann (Jowdy) Basher.

Jean's family would like to extend a special thank you to Maureen Burnett for all of her loving care, Norman Basher for his guidance and love, Chip Jowdy for all of his assistance during this most difficult time, Mal Jowdy for always being by her sister's side, and to all of our family and friends.

The liturgy of Resurrection will take place on Friday January 18, 2013 at 10 AM in Saint Anthony's Maronite Church, Granville Ave., Danbury.

Burial will follow at Saint Peter's Cemetery.
