Grover G. Guyton

Grover Guyton Grover “Doc” Guyton, 74, of Danbury, husband of Hattie (Nash) Guyton, died on Friday, February 22, 2013 at Danbury Hospital.

“Doc” was born in Greenwood, Mississippi, August 28, 1938, a son of Grover and Alice Guyton. He attended Mississippi schools and was the last of six children of Grover and Alice.

In years past, Mr. Guyton resided in the states of Illinois and Florida and became a resident of Danbury in 1960. A retired railroad bed and track engineer, Mr. Guyton first was employed by the New Haven & Hartford Railroad and retired from Metro North after thirty-nine years of service.

A man who graciously offered guidance to many was an inspiration to those whom he touched.  His infectious smile will long be remembered.  He will be sorely missed.

In addition to his wife, Hattie of fifty-eight years, “Doc” is survived by three sons, Larry Guyton and Mikel Guyton both of Bethel and Terrell Stanton of Waterbury; two daughters, Mary Lee Guyton of Danbury and Mary Alice Little of Waterbury; fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Guyton was predeceased by two sons, Grover Jr. and Walter; a grandson, Johnnie; two brothers, George and Jeppie and three sisters, May, Annie and Sally.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 12 noon in the New Hope Baptist Church, 10 Dr. Aaron B. Samuels Blvd., Danbury with the Rev. Leroy G. Parker, Pastor officiating. Interment will take place in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury at the direction of the family. The family will receive friends at the New Hope Baptist Church on Friday after 11 AM.
