Eva M. Asmar

Eva (Najam) Asmar, 99, of Unionville, CT, formerly of Danbury, wife of the late Abdon Asmar, died on Monday, March 25, 2013 at Governor’s House Health Care Center, Simsbury, CT.

Mrs. Asmar was born in Danbury, February 17, 1914, a daughter of the late Latfalla and Mary (Daybes) Najam.  She attended Danbury schools and was a retired accounting clerk for the former City Trust Company of Danbury.

A member of St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Parish of Danbury, Mrs. Asmar was a member of the Ladies Guild, Altar Society and Mercy Meal Committee.  She, along with three others this past November, was honored as one of the four eldest members of the parish, for her dedication and service to the parish and was given an Apostolic Blessing for Emeritus Pope Benedict and was recognized by local, state and national civic leaders as well as the National Apostolate of Maronites.

Mrs. Asmar is survived by a daughter, Barbara Bistany and her husband, Phillip of Methuen, MA; a daughter in law, Linda Asmar of Bloomfield, CT; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Godfrey, Katherine Bistany, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Asmar, Dr. Rebecca Asmar and Sarah (Joshua) Kohl; five great grandchildren, Bistany, Jacob and Hannah Godfrey and Grace and Noah Asmar as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Asmar was predeceased by a son, Attorney Mark A. Asmar; two sisters, Sadie Sabbagh and Lillian Zarour and by three brothers, Joseph Najam, James Najam and G. Joseph George.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 11 AM in St. Anthony Maronite Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury.

Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at St. Anthony Church on Thursday from 9:30 AM to 10:45AM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Anthony Maronite Church would be appreciated.
