Larry J. Straiton

Larry J. Straiton, 71, retired Town of Bethel Superintendent of the Water and Sewer Division died on Sunday morning at Gaylord Hospital, Wallingford, CT.

A Bethel resident, Mr. Straiton was the husband of Julie (Washkowich) Straiton.

Larry was born in Danbury, April 28, 1941, a son of Cornelius and Mary (Marchison) Straiton and resided in Bethel where he attended local schools and graduated from Bethel High School.

He was employed with the Town of Bethel for thirty-eight years prior to his retirement.

Upon retirement, he enjoyed gardening, trips to the casinos and cruise ship traveling.

He was a member of the New England Water Works Association, the International Water Association and St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church of Danbury.

In addition to his wife, Julie of forty-seven years, he is survived by a son, Scott Straiton of Bethel; a brother, Bethel Second Selectman Richard C. Straiton and his wife, Sharon of Bethel; a sister, Marianne C. Maltese and her husband, Vincent of Oakville, CT, his mother in law, Olga Washkowich of Bethel and sister in law, Barbara Voutas and her husband, Bruce of Brookfield as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.

The Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 10 AM in St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 13 Pembroke Rd., Danbury with Father John Cigan officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions in Larry’s memory may be made to St. Nicholas Church.
