Shirley C. Smith

Shirley C. Smith, 89, of Danbury, wife of the late Rubin Smith, died on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Danbury Hospital.

Mrs. Smith was born in Vineyard Haven, MA, February 2, 1923, a daughter of the late Henry and Mae (Wiener) Cronig.  She attended Massachusetts schools and graduated from Mt. Ida Junior College,  Newton, Massachusetts.

A retired cosmetician, Mrs. Smith has been a resident of Danbury for the past twenty years coming  from Fort Lee, New Jersey.

She was a member of the United Jewish Center of Danbury and an advocate for the awareness of and research into Tourette ‘s Syndrome (TS).

Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, Jeffrey Kramer; a daughter, Marjory L. Kramer; two stepsons, Mark Zuckerman and Ronald Zuckerman; a sister, Carole Abrahams and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, January 7,2013 at 1 PM in the United Jewish Center, Danbury with Rabbi Clifford E. Librach officiating.

Burial will take place in the Hebrew Center Cemetery, Martha’s Vineyard, MA. Contributions in Mrs. Smith’s memory may be made to the Tourette Syndrome Foundation, tsa-usa.org or to the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center, P.O. Box 692, Vineyard Haven, MA  02568.
