Kenneth L. Nowak

Ken NowakKenneth Lawrence Nowak, 53 of Ridgefield, husband of Anna (Garofalo) Nowak died on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Mr. Nowak was born in Detroit, MI on July 14, 1958 to the late Paul and Joyce Marie (Aagard) Nowak.  The family lived in Syracuse NY from 1960-1962 and then in New Canaan, CT where Ken grew up.  He graduated New Canaan HS with Honors in 1976 and was a varsity wrestler for all 4 years.  Ken returned to Syracuse where he attended Syracuse University for Engineering and was active in scholastic sports and was a teaching assistant in mathematics.  He received a BS in Chemical Engineering in 1980.

Ken worked in the power generation and environmental industries for his entire professional career and started two companies, one with his brother Rick in 1992.  That company, Environmental Energy Services Inc., today serves clients internationally and has offices in Newtown, CT and Mexico.  The company’s main focus is to improve the efficiency and reduce the harmful emissions of fossil fuel power plants.  Ken traveled extensively, was a huge fan of the Syracuse college basketball team and was an active member in the Syracuse alumni association and supported community events and programs with his family in Ridgefield.

He is survived by his wife Anna (Garofalo) Nowak and their two children, Ethan Paul and Benjamin Lawrence.  Ken is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Jane Nowak and sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and John Minalgo and nephews, Kenneth and Christopher Cardelle.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Sunday, July 1, 2012 from 12 Noon to 3 PM.

A Prayer Service will be conducted in the Kane Funeral Home at 2:30 PM with Deacon Frank Foyt of St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Ridgefield officiating.

Interment will be private.

The family asks donations be made in Ken’s memory to the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven Hospital, 20 York St., New Haven, CT  06510.
