Emogene Pearl Nesheim

Emogene P. Nesheim, age 91, died at The Village at Brookfield Common in Brookfield CT on Friday, January 13, 2012 of natural causes.

She was born Emogene Sullivan in the Town of Vergennes, Illinois, to the late Millard and Anna Sullivan. She attended Vergennes Grade School, graduated from Vergennes High School in 1938 and attended Southern Illinois University and the University of Illinois in Urbana, Illinois. During WW II she moved to Chicago, Illinois and worked for Encyclopedia Britannica and then became a school teacher in Benton and Mt. Vernon Illinois.  Following the war she married the late Robert Olaf Nesheim on July 13, 1946. They were divorced in 1980.

Emogene was a beloved and devoted mother, sister, wife, grandmother and friend to many family members and the communities in which she lived.  She was a frequent volunteer in the school systems and a Girl Scout leader.  She resided in Hamilton, Ohio; Detroit, Michigan; Urbana, Arlington Heights, Barrington, and Champaign Illinois; Rancho Bernardo, California; and Brookfield Connecticut. 

Emogene was preceded in death by her four siblings Ruth Sullivan, Euvera Wade, Irene Brake, and Orville Sullivan and her daughter Susan Nesheim Yost. 

Emogene is survived by her daughters and their husbands Barbara and Jeff Mowry of Greenwood Village, Colorado, Sandra and John Rankin of Danbury, Connecticut, her four grandchildren Scott Yost and his wife Lindsey of Salt Lake City Utah, Shane Yost of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Shawn Yost of San Diego, California, and Jessica Mowry of Rome Italy, and her foreign exchange student daughter Dr. Irene Hellemans of Amsterdam, Netherlands.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday February 25, 2012 in Danbury, Connecticut.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Connecticut Affiliate of Susan G.
