John “Jack” Jones

John “Jack” Jones, 94 of Ridgefield, CT, a longtime Ridgefielder and a retired Connecticut State Police Commander, died at his home on Friday afternoon, January 27, 2012 after a brief illness.

 He was the husband of the late Jeanette (McManus) Jones.

Mr. Jones was born in New York, NY, October 11, 1917, son of John and Anne (Quirk) Jones. He and his family relocated to Ridgefield in 1923 from New York and attended Ridgefield schools until his family moved to Darien in 1929 where he attended Darien schools and graduated from Darien High School.

Mr. Jones joined the Connecticut State Police in 1943 and retired in 1970 and had risen through the ranks to become Commander of Troop I in Bethany, CT. He served from 1943 to 1959 at the Troop A Barracks when it was located on East Ridge, which now serves at the present day Ridgefield Police Department.

Following his retirement in 1970 from the Connecticut State Police, Mr. Jones then worked as director of security for Scoville Manufacturing in Waterbury, CT  He held the position until his retirement in 1980.

He married Ridgefield resident, Jeanette McManus in 1940 at St. Mary Church, Ridgefield. Mrs. Jones died in 1997.   Jack and Jeanette were married for fifty-seven years, resided in Ridgefield where they raised their four daughters.

Mr. Jones in his retirement enjoyed playing golf at the Ridgefield Golf Course, enjoyed watching the UConn Men’s and Women’s Basketball, being lifeguard at the backyard pool for his sixteen grandchildren, working on lawn management and patrolling the neighborhood.

He was a charter member of the CT State Police Alumni Association and a parishioner of St. Mary Parish, Ridgefield.

Mr. Jones is survived by his four daughters, Betsey Morrison and her husband, Jack of Bloomfield, CT, Jinny Fossi and her husband, Tom of Charleston, SC, Arlene Pospisil and her husband, Tom of Schroon Lake, NY and Monica Bickley and her husband, Dane of Hummelstown, PA; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at 10:15 AM in St. Mary Church, 55 Catoonah St., Ridgefield.

Interment will be private in St. Mary Cemetery at the direction of the family.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 from 4 PM to 7 PM.
