Russell S. Wilson Jr.

russell wilsonRussell Sage Wilson Jr., 88 of Danbury, husband of Polly (Malamatis) Wilson, died on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at Glen Hill Health Care, Danbury surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Wilson was born in Cornwall, NY, February 18, 1923, son of the late Russell Sage Wilson and Kathryn (Trigge) Halstead.  He attended NY schools.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving from 1942 to 1946 in Hawaii as a torpedoman’s mate and later a machinist  apprentice.

He met his wife, Polly Malamatis of fifty-one years at Sperry Rail Company and retired from Heise Dresser Industries of Newtown, CT.

Although he was retired, he continued to work as a starter at the Ridgefield Golf Course and was an avid golfer himself.  He was a Boston Red Sox fan and NY Giants fan.  Mr. Wilson enjoyed the many cherished friends he made over the years at the Danbury Fair Mall.

Mr. Wilson was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Richter Park Men’s Golf Club.

In addition to his wife, Polly, he is survived by his three children, Russell Wilson III and his wife, Enid of Danbury, Leslie Heath and her husband, Carson of North Carolina and Nike Wilson of Danbury; three grandsons, Nick Cipolla, Russell Benjamin and George Heath; a great grandson, Nicholas Cipolla and a niece, Debbie Moribito.

He also was predeceased by his dog Charlie whom he loved with all his heart.

The Rite of Burial will take place on Saturday, August, 13, 2011 at 11 am in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge Road, Danbury with the Rev. Peter Karloutsos, officiating.

Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Friday from 6 pm to 9 pm.

The Trisagion Prayer Service will take place on Friday at 6:15 pm in the funeral home.

The family would like to extend their warmest thanks to the entire staff of Recovery Boulevard of Glen Hill.
