Marie B. Venus

Marie VenusMarie (Bishop) Venus, 92 of Ridgefield, wife of the late Richard E. Venus, Sr. died at her home on Wednesday evening, May 18th, 2011.

Mrs. Venus was born in Bridgeport, July 15, 1918, daughter of Forrester and Elizabeth (Lynch) Bishop.  She attended Bridgeport schools until the age of twelve and moved to Ridgefield and attended Ridgefield schools and was a Ridgefield resident for the past eighty years.

Active in the Ridgefield community, Mrs. Venus served as a Justice of the Peace, former chairperson of the Democratic Town Committee, St. Mary Parish and the Rosary Society.

Mrs. Venus was a dental hygienist with Dr. Walter T. Dolan of Ridgefield and worked also a salesperson and bookkeeper for Craig’s Jewelry Store and D.M. Read Co.

In early years, she enjoyed tennis, biking and swimming.  In more recent years, she enjoyed the game of cards and Bingo.

Her most important interest in life was the time spent in sharing and caring for her family; most especially her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She will be sorely missed.

Mrs. Venus is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth V. O’Neill and Mary “Moo Moo” Landon and her husband, Daniel “Chip” all of Ridgefield; a daughter in law, Gail Venus Leburg of Palos Verdes, CA; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Venus was predeceased by a son, Richard E. Venus, Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 24th at 10:15 am in St. Mary Church, Ridgefield.

Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Monday, May 23rd from 4 pm to 7 pm.

Contributions in Mrs. Venus’ memory and honor may be made to the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, 90 East Ridge or to the Ridgefield Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund, 6 Catoonah St., both of Ridgefield 06877.
