Annelies Venus
Annelies (Heinzeller) Venus, 65, of Norwalk, formerly of Ridgefield, a forty-one year educator with the Ridgefield Public School system died on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Norwalk Hospital.

Annelies was born in Reichenberg, Czech Republic, May 10, 1945, daughter of the late Josef A. and Elisabeth (Thiel) Heinzeller and was raised and schooled in Innsbruck, Austria until the age of 10 when the family immigrated to the United States first settling in Mt. Vernon, NY.  She attended Mt. Vernon schools, attained a Bachelors of Art degree from the College of New Rochelle and a Masters degree from the University of Connecticut.  She also attained her 6th year certificate for her Doctorate.

She began her teaching career in Bay Shore, NY school district for two years, and for the past forty-one years with the Ridgefield Public school system. She was the Chair of the Foreign Language Department at East Ridge Middle School.  She taught German and French there as well as Ridgefield High School.

Annelies was also a certified herbalist studying under the renowned Rosemary Gladstar.  She used her love of herbology and aromatherapy to lecture and create an impressive line of products for her small business, Limestone Herb Gardens.

She was a member of St. Mary Parish of Ridgefield and a member of the American Association for Teachers of German, Connecticut Council of Language Teachers, American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages, Connecticut Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, National Audubon Society, National Geographic Society, National Wildlife Federation, Connecticut Education Association and the Smithsonian Institute.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen B. Jackson of Fairfield, CT and Elizabeth S. Venus and her husband, Matthew L. Steele of Barnstead, NH; a brother, Manfred Heinzeller and his wife, Eileen of Bloomington, MN; her twin sister, Christl Anastasio and her husband, Richard of Norwalk, CT; her partner, Peter Roberts of Norwalk, CT; her former husband, Thomas Venus of Ridgefield, CT; four grandchildren, Della and Charlie Jackson and Grady and Owen Steele as well as several nieces and nephews, and six grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 12th, 2011 at 11:30 AM in St. Mary Church, 55 Catoonah St., Ridgefield.  A celebration of her life will be held at Ridgefield High School from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St. Ridgefield on Friday from 4 PM to 8 PM.
