Audrey Siegel

Audrey Siegel, 88 of Danbury, devoted wife of the late Arthur Siegel, died on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Hancock Hall, Danbury.

Mrs. Siegel, an insurance executive, established and operated the Siegel Insurance Agency, Danbury, along with her late husband.  She retired in 2008 at the age of 85.

She was born in Boston, MA, December 10, 1922, a daughter of Hyman and Eva Wolpert. She attended Boston schools and graduated from secretarial school.

During World War II, Mrs. Siegel was a civilian employed by the U.S. Army and met her future husband at an Officer’s Dance.  Shortly after meeting Arthur Siegel, he was deployed to serve overseas.  As difficult as it was, Audrey and Arthur corresponded with each other throughout the war. They were married in 1945, just one week after his safe return to the United States.  Following their wedding, Arthur brought Audrey to Danbury, and she has resided here ever since.

Mrs. Siegel enjoyed Scrabble and the Sunday NY Times crossword puzzles.

She was a lifetime member of the United Jewish Center of Danbury.

In addition to her professional career as an insurance executive, her family was always her first priority in life. She will be sorely missed.

She is survived by son Paul and his wife, Sharon; son Bobby and his wife, Marilyn;  daughter Donna and her husband, Ronnie; a sister, Irma and her husband, Marvin; seven grandchildren: Jason, Carrie, Lauren, Eric, Mark, Nicole and Jamie; and a great grandson, Jake.

In addition her husband and parents, Mrs. Siegel was predeceased by a brother, Sidney.

Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Hancock Hall for the compassionate care they gave to both Audrey and her family.

Private graveside funeral services and interment were held in the United Jewish Center Cemetery, Brookfield with Rabbi Clifford Librach of the United Jewish Center, Danbury officiating.
