Henry C. Scott, Jr.

Henry C. Scott, Jr. of Brookfield died April 26, 2011 at his home.  He was born in New York, New York, son of the late Henry C. and Michelle (Bouvier) Scott.  Henry was the beloved husband of Betsy and died one day before their forty-fourth wedding anniversary.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters and one son, Melinda Scott of Danbury, Penelope Sullivan and husband Michael of Madison, NJ, Diane Scott of Stinson Beach, CA, Winslow Scott and wife Jordyn of Columbia, MD and Elizabeth (Libby) Scott of Newport, OR and his five grandchildren, Mollie Sullivan, Charlotte Sullivan, Scott Sullivan, Dieringer Scott and Alexander Scott.

His two half sisters, Beau Arnold of Englewood, CO and Joan Gemmell of Tarpon Springs, FL survive him as well as several cousins and nephews.  His sister Michelle (Shella) Crouse died in 2000 and has no doubt welcomed him to heaven where they are catching up on Yale hockey and football.

Henry graduated from Brooks School in North Andover, MA where he was a former trustee.  He also graduated from Yale University.  He served for over twenty years as chairman of the Western Connecticut Alumni Schools Committee and enjoyed interviewing prospective Yale students.

He was very proud of his service in the 82nd Airborne Division and still had his jump boots “just in case.”

During his thirty plus year career in the wood, pulp and paper industry, he worked for Union Camp, W.R. Grace, Southwest Forest Industries and Bulkley Dunton Pulp Company.

Henry and Betsy moved to Brookfield in 1969. An avid bird watcher since his Grandmother introduced him to it as a child; he enjoyed feeding and watching the many birds in his backyard and in the past few years participating in the Cornell Lab of Ornithology bird counts.

He was a strong proponent of public libraries and served as a representative on the CT State Library Association.

Henry never met a stranger -   he loved talking to people and will be missed by many.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 30th, 2011 at 9:30 am in St. Joseph Church, Brookfield.
