David J. Poel

David J. Poel of Danbury, cherished companion of Debra M. Cretella, passed away at his home at age 63 on Tuesday, November 29, 2011.

David was born in Muskegon, MI, August 8, 1948, son of John and Beatrice (Ham) Poel of Hudsonville, MI. He attended Michigan schools and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Calvin College.

David served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.  He later moved from Grand Rapids, MI to Danbury, and was self-employed in the area for the past six years.

David had a passion for traveling and enjoyed photography and outdoor activities, especially camping.  He loved to live life to the fullest and truly lived by the phrase, "carpe diem."

In addition to his companion, Debra M. Cretella of Danbury, David is survived by a daughter, Andrea Poel-Follick of Holly, MI; a son, Austin Poel of Grand Rapids, MI; a brother, Stephen Poel of Bellaire, MI; two sisters, Denise Vryhof of Hudsonville, MI and Susan Krommendyk of Bellaire, MI and a grandson, Jackson Follick.  He will be missed by Debra's children, Kristin and Sean. A sister, Camille Quest predeceased David.

Please join us for a "Celebration of David's Life" on Saturday, December 10th, 11 am  at The First Congregational Church, 46 Main Street, Bethel, CT, with a reception following at: 9 Sampson Terrace, Villages At Timber Oak, Danbury, CT.  All are invited.
