Michael F. O’Keeffe Jr.

Michael F. O’Keeffe Jr., 72 of Ridgefield, formerly of Vista, NY, died at the Danbury Hospital on Friday, April 25, 2011.

He was the husband of the late Mae (Lavatori) O’Keeffe.

Mr. O’Keeffe was born in Stamford, CT, January 15, 1939, a son of the late Michael F. and Catherine (McCarthy) O’Keeffe.  He lived in Vista, NY until moving to Ridgefield in 1973.

A graduate of John Jay High School in the Class of 1957, he was a member of the school’s football team.

For thirty one years, Mr. O’Keeffe was a mechanic for the Lewisboro School District and a substitute school bus driver.  In previous years, he was a mechanic at Tator’s Garage, South Salem, NY and a former proprietor with his wife, Mae of the Salem Liquor Store where he would work part time after the sale of the business to the current owner.

A member of the Vista Fire Department, he served as a past lieutenant and was a member of St. Mary Church, Ridgefield as well as an usher.

Mr. O’Keeffe is  survived by a niece, Andrea Lavery of Old Saybrook, CT , a nephew, Michael Lavery of Springfield, MA as well as the Lavatori family of Ridgefield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 10:15 am in St. Mary Church, Ridgefield.

Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Monday evening from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Contributions in Mr. O’Keeffe’s honor and memory may be made to the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, 90 East Ridge or Meal on Wheels Program, 25 Gilbert St., both of Ridgefield, CT  06877.
