Francis Patrick Ofiero

Francis OfieroFrancis Patrick Ofiero, 63, of Danbury, husband of Regina (Ebling) Ofiero, died on Tuesday morning, July 19, 2011 at the Danbury Hospital, following a long, brave battle with leukemia for the last thirteen years.  He was a resident of Danbury since 1980.

Fran was born in Stamford, CT on June 23, 1948, the son of Michael and Emily (D’Aquila) Ofiero, both deceased.  He attended Stamford, CT schools, Stamford High School and then served in the armed forces.  He later graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a Bachelor of Science degree.

A United States Army veteran, he served in Vietnam where he suffered injuries and was honorably discharged.  He later joined the U.S. Postal Service and worked at the Stamford Post Office.   Fran also served as a national sales manager with several companies prior to establishing his own business.

He was an avid golfer and a member of the Richter Park Men’s Golf Club.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.  He will be sorely missed by his many friends, some since childhood; neighbors;  fellow Vietnam servicemen; Richter Park golfers and staff; and the wonderful folks at his favorite restaurant, Spasi’s; as well as his beloved family members.  He will also be missed by his granddogs, Harley Davidson and Charlie Brown.

In addition to his wife, Regina, of twenty years, Fran is survived by a stepson, Robert G. Dorsch III and his wife, Misty, of Danbury; a stepdaughter, Heather Muller, and her husband, Jacob of Danbury; two brothers, Michael “Mickey” Ofiero and his wife, Frances, of Norwalk and Robert “Bobby” Ofiero and his wife, Lenore, of Trumbull; three sisters, Jean Serricchio and her husband, Rudy, of Stamford, Annette “Penny” Rich of Stamford and Gale Cerrato and her husband, Jerry, of St. Petersburg, FL; five grandchildren, Skylar, Payton and Savanna Dorsch and Olivia and Harrison Muller.

The family will receive friends at the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Friday, July 22, 2011 from 5:00 to 9:00pm.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11:00am at the Walnut Hill Community Church, 156 Walnut Hill Road, Bethel, CT with Pastor Jim Bray officiating.

Interment will be private and at the direction of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in Fran’s honor and memory to Ann’s Place, Home of I-Can, 39 Old Ridgebury Rd., Suite #17, Danbury, CT  06810.

The family would like to thank the physicians, nurses and staff and all of the angels of the Praxair Cancer Center, Danbury Hospital, for loving care given to Fran and our family.  May everyone be truly blessed.
