Harry Marmaras

Harry Marmaras, 88 of Danbury, husband of the late Georgia (Theodore) Marmaras died on Monday, May 2, 2011 at Danbury Hospital.

Mr. Marmaras was born in Danbury, June 29, 1922, a son of the late George P. and Rita (Pastri) Marmaras. He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Becker Business School.

He was a World War Two US Army veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre as a member of the clerical staff assigned to General Douglas McArthur.

For many years, Mr. Marmaras was a bread deliveryman for the former Spaulding Bakery, Danbury and later was a contract deliveryman for Pepperidge Farms of Norwalk. He enjoyed working around the home as well as woodworking.

A lifelong Danbury resident, Mr. Marmaras was a former Boy Scout leader and a member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Danbury.

He is survived by three sons, George Marmaras and Augustus Marmaras and his wife, Dawn all of Danbury and Michael H. Marmaras of Winsted, CT; a daughter, Mary Ciaszki and her husband, John of New Fairfield; a sister, Nellie Pardalis of Danbury; a brother, Michael Marmaras and his wife, Diamond of Danbury; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Peter G. Marmaras; a daughter in law, Patricia L. Marmaras; a nephew, George P. Marmaras; a niece, Rita Hatcher; brother in law, Peter Pardalis and sister in law, Edith Marmaras.

The Rite of Burial will take place on Thursday at 11 am in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Clapboard Ridge Rd., Danbury with the Rev. Peter Karloutsos officiating.

Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

The family will receive friends at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Danbury on Thursday morning after 10 am.

Contributions in Mr. Marmaras’ memory may be made to the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Danbury.
