John E. Leslie

John LeslieJohn Everett. Leslie, 79 of Ridgefield, husband of Vera (Peters) Leslie, died on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Danbury Hospital.
Mr. Leslie was born, October 5, 1931 and raised in the Bronx, NY.  He was the son of Harry and Emma (Weisheit) Leslie.  He attended NY schools, graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School and attended New York University.

Like his father before him, he worked for the Metropolitan Life insurance Company. He earned both the Chartered Life Underwriter and Life Office Management Association designations in the field of insurance.   He was also a financial planner.
In 1957, John married Vera Peters and they moved to Flushing, Queens, New York where they had two sons.  In 1965, John and Vera moved to Ridgefield, CT.  Shortly thereafter, John established his own insurance company, Leslie Associates in Ridgefield.  He introduced group health insurance and pension plans to many businesses and local governments in the area.

John was an avid New York Yankee fan, so his favorite pastime was watching them play.  For the last few years, he spent a lot of time doing genealogy searches and had successfully traced the whereabouts of many of his ancestors.

In addition to his wife of fifty-three years, Mr. Leslie is survived by two sons, John Edward Leslie of West Redding, CT and James Edmund Leslie of Bridgewater, CT and two grandsons, Tyler James Leslie and Michael  Trevor Leslie, also of Bridgewater.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 10:15 am in St. Mary Church, Ridgefield.

Burial will follow in Old St. Raymond Cemetery, the Bronx, NY.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Tuesday, June 28th from 5 pm to 8 pm.
