Stephanie M. Kurfirst, RN

Stephanie M. Kurfirst, RN, 60 of Ridgefield, wife of Robert V. Johnston, died on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at Laurel Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Ridgefield.

Born in New York NY, July 28, 1951, daughter of the late Louis and Anna (Piskura) Kurfirst, she was raised in Queens, NY, attended Queens schools, Bishop Reilly High School and graduated from Hunter College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and New York University with a Masters in Nursing.

A registered nurse, Stephanie was a nursing director with New York University Medical Center.

A resident of Ridgefield for the past nineteen years coming from North Plainfield, NJ, she was a member of the board of directors of Friends of Placido Domingo, a reading tutor of the Ridgefield Public School system, a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish of Ridgefield and served as a Eucharistic Minister.

She enjoyed gardening and bird watching.

In addition to her husband, Robert V. Johnston of twenty-five years, she is survived by two sons, U.S. Army 1st Lt. Matthew K. Johnston of Danbury and U.S. Army Specialist Stephen F. Johnston of Landsthul, Germany; a step daughter, Deidre Kravec and her husband, Michael of Pittston, NJ and two grandchildren, Caitlin and Chloe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 10:30 am in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Rd., Ridgefield.

Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Ridgefield.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Tuesday, December 29, 2011 from 4 pm to 8 pm.
