Donald "Don" Randall Hathaway, 79 passed peacefully at Torrington Health & Rehab Center on Friday, October 7, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer .

Donald was born on October 18, 1931 in New Bedford, MA to Martin P. and Hazel (Carr) Hathaway. Times were tough, so at age 13 Donald quit school and began working at various jobs including the local movie theater and delivering milk.

Donald married Barbra Wooldridge in New Bedford, MA on February 26th, 1952. Together they raised two daughters, Jane and Cynthia.

Shortly after marriage, the young couple moved to Bridgeport, CT where Donald worked at various factories and served in the Army National Guard. From 1967 to 1992 Donald was employed by Nestle in New Milford and at retirement was presented a gold watch which he loved to proudly show his family and friends.

During retirement Donald and Barbra made several trips to North Dakota to visit their daughter Jane and her family, where he was able to ride a John Deere Tractor and observe a dairy cow operation for the first time. Donald enjoyed his leisure time watching the New York Yankees and growing his delicious tomatoes.

Upon Barbra's death, Donald moved into Danbury Commons in 1998. Donald was very happy there thanks to his family and friends, especially Fred, Mel, Nancy, & Dorothy. Visitors were able to view the collection of cards and pictures of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren displayed on his refrigerator.

Donald is survived by two daughters, Jane Pesek and husband Monte of Alexander, ND and Cynthia Vallee and husband Lewis of Meriden, CT, brother Fred of Oregon City, OR, sister Muriel Sorenson and husband John of New Bedford, MA, and sister-in-law Carolyn (Spiros). Donald had 5 grandchildren; Michael, Christina, Erica (David), Gretta (Brandon), and Amanda and 7 great grandchildren; Andrina, Carlton, Corynna, Samantha, Cale, Brian, and Tiffany in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Barbra, son (Randall), grandson (Aaron), a granddaughter, his parents, brother Marty, sisters, Dot and Margie, 3 brothers-in-law, and 3 sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be private.
