John "Chi" Dzubak

John Dzubak, a lifelong resident of Danbury passed away peacefully Friday, October 28, 2011 at Pope John Paul II Care and Rehabilitation Center, Danbury.  He was 81 years old.  John was born on October 29, 1929, a son of Alex and Elizabeth (Bordach) Dzubak.  He graduated from Danbury High School. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.   An avid golfer, he was one of Danbury's premier golfers for many years.  While at Danbury High School, he was on the first golf team to win the state championship.  His passion for golf led him to caddie and then become assistant pro at Ridgewood County Club.  John was club champion at Vail's Grove and Candlewood Valley.  He was a recipient of the Old Timers Athletic Association award in 2002.   John was employed by the New Haven Railroad for many years until his retirement.  John is survived by his daughter Rebecca Mercaldo of Brookfield, 2 granddaughters, Isabella and Adriana, three sisters, Irene Zurinskas, Florence Maroto and Margaret Wichman; a brother, Robert Dzubak as well as several nieces and nephews.   in addition to his parents, John was predeceased  by  three brothers, Edward, Frank and Joseph and by six sisters, Mary Bielawski, Lillian Bertalowitz, Betty Clark, Ann Dannion, Dorothy Reed and Ethel Wilson.  A service of interment will take place at the Memorial Garden of the Congregational Church of Brookfield, 160 Whisconier Road on Friday, November 11, 2011 at 11 a.m.
