Joseph A. Stavola Jr.

Joseph A. Stavola Jr., 78, of Danbury, husband of the late Josephine (Assad) Stavola died on Wednesday morning, June 23, 2010 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Stavola was born in Danbury, October 5, 1931, a son of the late Joseph A. and Louise (Carlucci) Stavola.  He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School in the Class of 1949.

He was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran.

A retired quality control inspector with Doran Bros., Inc. of Danbury, Mr. Stavola work for many years at the Bard-Parker Company until their relocation to Canaan, CT and previously at the family owned and operated former Mayflower Bar and Grille, North St., Danbury.

A lifelong Danbury resident, he was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Korean War Veterans, Padanaram Hose Co. and St. Anthony’s Maronite Catholic Church, Danbury where he served as an usher at the 5PM Saturday Liturgy.

He enjoyed duckpin bowling, Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun and doing card tricks whereby he attained the nickname, “the wizard”.
Joe enjoyed making people laugh and being high on life. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by a son, Joseph A. Stavola III and his wife, Susan of New Milford, CT; a brother, John A. Stavola and his wife, Joan of Danbury; a special friend and companion, Fay Wong of New Fairfield, three grandchildren, Mark, Travis and Kerri as well as several nieces and nephews.

The Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, June 28th at 10AM in St. Anthony’s Maronite Church, 17 Granville Ave., Danbury with the Rev. Jean Younes officiating.

Burial will take place in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury at the direction of the family.

The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury on Sunday from 2PM to 5PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Cancer Society, 372 Danbury Rd., Wilton, CT 06897 for pancreatic cancer research would be appreciated.
