Virginia “Ginny” Sherwood


Virginia “Ginny” Sherwood, 85, of The Gardens, Danbury, and 47 year resident of Norwalk, died peacefully in her sleep at her home the morning of Friday, January 15, 2010. She was the wife of the late Walter S. Collins and Robert H. Sherwood.
Ginny was born in Stamford, May 20, 1924, a daughter of the late James and Florence (Gray) Street.  She attended Stamford schools and was a graduate of Stamford High School.
Mrs. Sherwood was employed by Machlett Labs and Raytheon for forty-three years in Springdale, CT.
A friend of animals, she was an advocate for animal rights.
A resident of Norton from 1953 to 1963, she was a member of the Norton Height Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Post 6433.  She moved to Norwalk in 1963 living there until late 2009.  She was also a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church of Stamford.
She is survived by two step-children and their spouses, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews of the area and out of state.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Sherwood was predeceased by two sisters, Beatrice Richards and Lydia Crichton.
Per the wishes of Mrs. Sherwood, there will be no formal funeral services.
