Lucy Pereyo, age 94, of Danbury, formerly of Ridgefield, died on April 27, 2010 at Danbury Hospital. She was the devoted wife of Henry Pereyo who predeceased her in 1991 and mother of Denise Leporati of Ridgefield

Lucy was born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico on June 25, 1915, daughter of the late Pedro and Carmen Melendez. Lucy's family moved to New York City when she was nine and she attended New York City schools. On July 1, 1934 she married the late Henry Pereyo and they enjoyed 57 wonderful years together.

Lucy had an exciting career as a high fashion model at the Salon Moderne at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City, where she worked from the mid 30's through 1949. During World War ll, she traveled throughout the U.S. with other models and celebrities to aid in the war effort by helping to sell War Bonds.

In 1949 she left her modeling career, moved to Queens, N.Y. and gave birth to her only child, a daughter, Denise. Her husband passed away in 1991 and shortly afterward, Lucy moved to Ridgefield, CT to be nearer to her daughter's family. She was a resident of Ballard Park from 1996 until moving to Pope John ll Rehab and Nursing Center in Danbury in 2003.
Lucy enjoyed life and was totally dedicated to her daughter and grandchildren. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Whether at Ballard Park or Pope John ll, Lucy was known for always being friendly and outgoing. She will lovingly be remembered for the smile on her face and her contagious laughter.

Lucy is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Denise Leporati and her husband, Thomas of Ridgefield; her three grandchildren, Kristine Roberts and her husband Hal of Memphis,TN, Michael Leporati and his wife, Gigi of Wilton, CT and Mark Leporati of Seattle, WA; great-grandaughters, Angela Roberts and Lucy Roberts of Memphis.
The family will always be grateful to all of the staff at Pope John ll Rehab and Nursing Center for the years of kind and wonderful care. They would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Danbury Hospital for making Lucy's last days comfortable and peaceful.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 3rd at 10:15 am in St. Mary’s Church, Ridgefield.
Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Sunday, May 2nd from 2PM to 5PM.
