Frank  D. Markert, 97, of Ridgefield, husband of the late Margaret (Bohn) Markert, died on Tuesday evening, January 5, 2010 at Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care, Danbury.
Mr. Markert was born in New York, NY, July 4, 1912, a son of the late Francis and Sabina (Egan) Fleckenstein.
After his father’s death, his mother married Frank Markert.
He attended New York schools, was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and was a retired printer with the NY Post.
A resident of Ridgefield for the past twelve years coming from the Bronx, NY, Mr. Markert was a member of the International Topographer’s Union of New York.
Mr. Markert was a member and daily communicant of St. Mary’s Church of Ridgefield and a daily worshipper at the Adoration Chapel.
He is survived by six children, four sons and three daughters.
Daniel Markert and his wife, Anna of Dumont, NJ, Mary M. Callanan and her husband, Patrick of Midland Park, NJ, Joseph Markert and his wife, Kate of Ridgefield, Anthony Markert and his wife, Patricia of Ridgefield, Margaret Ann Markert of San Francisco, CA and John Markert of Austin, TX; seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
Mr. Markert was predeceased by a son, Rev. Brother Francis Jerome Markert, CFC of the Irish Christian Brothers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 9th at 10:30am in St. Mary’s Church, Ridgefield.
Interment will take place in St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens, New York.
The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Saturday after 9am.
